Fake Four & our comrades at Filthy Broke Recordings have collaborated to present this new instrumental project by the mythical lo-fi, experimental hip hop producer / rapper / singer / multi-instrumentalist Tommy V!
From Tommy V:
If you're reading this I thank you, whether you purchased the cassette,
or borrowed it from a friend! These songs feature a few old songs that
were salvaged and revamped from older recordings in Los Angeles,
and newer ones recorded in the coastal woodlands of Connecticut.
The idea of SILENCE SPEAKS - Volume 1, is simply an instrumental
project featuring my friends singing wordless melodies and harmonies.
A big THANKS to Michael Collins of Filthy Broke Records who was
'instrumental' in helping me get the mixes to a presentable state! This is
my first professionally manufactured cassette, it's been a long road since
Dust Collector (99) and those lo-fi cassettes I made in San Francisco,
so it's quite nostalgic feeling!
The instruments used include turntables, live drums, sampled drums,
bongos, shakers, tambourine, guiro, claves, glockenspiel, guitar, bass,
chapman stick, ebow, juno 60, farfisa, kurzweil 250, arp axxe, sp-505,
violin, zither, flugel horn, trumpet, alto-saxophone, and kouxian.
Thanks to Ceschi & David for letting me use some of your toys!
Another thanks to the accompanying musicians for your creative
contributions! Thanks to Tobin Hird for the mic and preamp!
I met Ceschi and David around 99' through our mutual friend Maleko while
living in SF. They were living in Berkeley, and before too long we started
our band Toca (2001-2007). A little Toca vibe can be heard on track # 6.
After that, Ces and Davo started Fake Four, which blossomed into a beautiful thing! Much love to the Tortora family!
The artwork on the cover are paintings from my mother's old jewelry box,
painted in traditional Pátzcuaro style, where she met my father in the 70s.
My apologies for not being able to credit the original artist.
Un gran saludo para mi familia en México, y un fuerte abrazo para mi
hermano Antonio en Montana.
This album is dedicated to my mother Susan. I hope that she approves
of her son's music, she was a big musical influence in my younger years!
Also, this music is dedicated to my original Imprints crew member Estéban,
hopefully he's freestyling to some of the beats wherever he may be!
I wish everyone a peaceful and prosperous 2016, spread love!
I hope this music speaks to you in one way or another, peace!
